Build a relevant audience
Define the group by a useful shared need or stage. Keep permission records and suppression or opt-out handling in the workflow. Do not assume that obtaining a telephone number establishes permission for unrelated promotions.
Offer one clear next step
Choose the action you can fulfil: discuss a product, request an appointment, learn about an offer or resolve a service question. Multiple unrelated calls to action make replies harder to interpret and route.
Review the message as a customer
Check that the business identity, context and next step are clear. Test personalisation values and links. Prepare language variants where your audience needs them and confirm the available template process.
Prepare ownership and capacity
Know who will handle replies and when. Provide an honest expectation outside coverage hours. If the campaign creates more enquiries than the team can manage, send in a controlled scope and adjust the follow-up process.
Measure outcomes in stages
Review delivery, replies, qualified enquiries and completed next actions separately. Compare similar campaigns with consistent definitions. There is no universal open rate or guaranteed sales uplift that applies to every audience.
Improve the next campaign
Use the questions customers actually ask to refine the message and workflow. Remove irrelevant segments, improve the first response and review failed handovers. Better relevance often matters more than a larger list.
Build a one-page campaign brief
Record the intended audience, permission source, message purpose, language, campaign owner and desired customer action. Add the team that answers replies, working hours and escalation route. Define the subscription and messaging budget separately, then state how the team will recognise a qualified enquiry and record its outcome.
One message, one purpose
A team prepares a message for customers who expect that communication. The brief identifies the audience, message purpose, receiving colleague and next action.
